That''s Not Fair!!!

We are hung up on fairness. As a society, we are fixated on some people having more than others. I do not look at fairness that way. Fairness is the equal sharing of misery. Remember this big boat crossing the North Atlantic, hit an iceberg and started to sink? It only had enough life boats for half the souls on board. What would be fair? Everyone going down with the ship. I do not want fair. I want to be in a dingy.

Safety Net

I work with Celebrate Recovery, a Christ centered 12 step group. We learn that one has to hit bottom before they turn around and start their recovery. Hitting bottom can be a painful thing. That is why our government has created safety nets to keep people from catastrophic situations. The problem is our government does not know where it should stop. It cushions falls to the point that we do not feel the need to turn our lives around. Health care, housing, food, etc. our government does not want to see anyone suffer, so they make more and more safety nets. The problem with the most well intentioned programs is it has allowed people to fling themselves down, down, down, from safety net to safety net without hitting bottom and without creating the internal need to turn themselves around. And, as people fling themselves down from net to net, congress is at the bottom, making more nets.

A letter to my Senators

Today I wrote both of my Senators and stated: In am not in good health and have modest means. You would think I would be desiring Universal Health, but I am not. I liken the Government taking care of my health like a kid selling crack cocaine on the sidewalk to take care of his gray haired mother. The intentions may be honorable, but the affect on society is devastating.
